Japan Karate Association Shotokan Karate-Do Junior Tournament in Ottawa

On June 20th, the Japan Karate Association Shotokan Karate-Do Junior Tournament was held in Ottawa for the first time, at the Hintonburg Community Centre. Over the course of the day, 36 young karate-ka, ages 6 to 14 participated from six different dojo/clubs in Ontario and Quebec. Kata and kumite matches were held for each category and rank, from white belt to brown belt, as well as a group kata demonstration. The tournament was a wonderful opportunity for the children to show their achievements.

In the event program, Ambassador Monji sent his congratulation to the young karate-ka for their hard work and long hours of practice, as well as his appreciation to the organizers for their dedication to the promotion and development of karate in Canada.

At the opening of the tournament, Ms. Junko Wada brought greetings and best wishes from the Embassy of Japan. During the tournament, spectators offered hearty cheers and applause to the young karate-ka for their achievements.
