Natsu Matsuri

JETAA Ottawa held its annual Natsu Matsuri at Ottawa City hall on Sunday July 19th.  Around one thousand people came to enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of the Japanese Summer Festival.

Musical performances included Ms. Ryoko Itabashi’s beautiful shamisen and Oto-wa’s high energy taiko and daigu performance.  Emi no Kai, Min’yo Kai and Komachi gave traditional Japanese dance performances.  Crowds enjoyed the martial arts demonstrations of Takahashi Dojo, Tateyama Kendo, Iaido and Judo Club, and the International Yoseikan Budo Federation.

Other events and attractions included:  a tea ceremony demonstration by Camellia Teas, an origami and kids corner, sumo suits, a Japanese book sale, hot and cold tea samples from David’s Tea.  JETAA Dogs (hot dogs with a Japanese twist) and yakisoba (Japanese fried noodles) were also served.

The Natsu Matsuri is a fantastic way to spend a weekend afternoon, and is held in Ottawa every year.
