Ohara Ikebana Exhibition: Spring Delight

On March 28th and 29th 2015, the Embassy of Japan was pleased to host the Ohara Ikebana Exhibition “Spring Delight”, which displayed a variety of beautiful and colourful floral arrangements in anticipation of the coming season.  Although Ottawa was still feeling winter’s prolonged chill, the Ottawa Chapter of the Ohara School of Ikebana thankfully brought some much wanted warmth and vibrant colour with its displays.

At the opening ceremony on the 28th, Ms. Elizabeth Armstrong, President of the Ottawa Chapter of Ohara School of Ikebana and Ms. Mitsuko Kawasaki, Exhibition Chair, delivered opening remarks. Representing the Embassy of Japan, Mr. Hiroshi Karube, Minister for the Embassy, addressed the audience and officially opened the event.  In his remarks, the Minister expressed the Embassy’s honour at hosting the exhibition and also remarked how welcoming the displays made him feel in anticipation of spring.  Minister Karube also thanked the Ottawa Chapter for their success in promoting Japanese culture and strengthening cross-cultural relations between the two nations for over 25 years.

Over the weekend, more than 430 visitors of all ages came to see the floral arrangements and enjoyed the exquisite and refined beauty of the displays.
