Guinomi: the Sake Cups, 108 pieces – Pottery Exhibition

From September 26th to 29th, the Embassy hosted a pottery exhibition, “Guinomi: the Sake Cups, 108 pieces,” by Japanese ceramicist, Junko Kiritani at the Information and Culture Centre. About 250 people visited this exhibition across 4 days.

This exhibition of 108 individual sake cups in each series was inspired by the concept of 108 desires in Buddhism. It had previously been held in Tokyo and Paris. This time, the “Shukyoku” and “Ori” series were exhibited. Visitors had opportunity to touch the artworks and ask questions directly to the artist, Ms. Kiritani, who was on site during the exhibition.

To provide an experience for visitors to actually use Ms. Kiritani’s works, sips of sake were served in the afternoon and the cups were also used at Japanese Sake Lecture on September 29th.
