Ikebana International Ottawa Centennial Chapter Exhibition 2017 – Origins

On March 29th, the Ikebana International Ottawa Centennial Chapter and the Canadian Museum of Nature in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan hosted the opening ceremony for the annual Ikebana exhibition by the Chapter at the Museum.

This year marks 50 years since the founding of the Ottawa Chapter of Ikebana International. Every year, the Chapter introduces a new theme to make the exhibition fresh and exciting. This year’s theme, "Origins" reflects the celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation. Using the most beautiful and interesting materials in season, the galleries were bursting with colourful blooms.

About 200 ikebana enthusiasts including diplomatic corps members attended the opening. In the ceremony, Ms. Nansy Sharp, President of the Ottawa Chapter of Ikebana International, Ms. Margret Backel, the President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Nature and Ambassador of Japan Kenjiro Monji gave remarks and Mrs. Etsuko Monji, Honorary President of the Ottawa Chapter, cut the garland and declared the exhibition officially open.
