Ikebana International Exhibition 2011 - ignite!
The Opening Ceremonies of Ikebana 2011 – ignite! at the Canadian Museum of Nature (CMN) took place on February 23, 2011.
Minister Masahiro Fukukawa, as Chargé d’Affaires a.i., attended the event and addressed the distinguished guests who included: former Prime Minister Jean Chretien; Mrs. Aline Chretien; Mr. Michel Houle, Interim President of CMN; Mary Lou Kingsbury, President of Ikebana International Chapter 120 in Ottawa; and Wendy Batson, Exhibition Chair.
The Embassy of Japan has enjoyed a long history of collaboration with Ikebana International Centennial Chapter 120 in Ottawa. Currently, Mrs. Masako Ishikawa, the wife of Ambassador Ishikawa, is Honorary President of Ikebana International.
While the Ambassador regretted that he could not attend the Opening Ceremonies due to an official trip to Japan, he was honoured to have an advance viewing of the displays.
This is the first year that the Ikebana International exhibit took place in the newly renovated space of the Museum. The atmosphere of the historic building lended itself to beauty of the exquisite flower arrangements on display.
