Ambassador Ishikawa's Lecture at the University of Ottawa
Ambassador's Lecture Series
On February 2nd, Ambassador Ishikawa participated in the Ambassadors’ Lecture Series of University of Ottawa.
It was organized by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Ottawa. There were more than 100 of audience such as of professors and students. The Honourable Bryon Wilfert, MP, Co-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-parliamentary Group was also there.
The topic of the lecture was “Importance of the basic: Facts about Japan for the 21st century”. Ambassador Ishikawa spoke about his perception of Canada as a balanced and multicultural country and Japan which is pro-actively changing in the world where globalization deepens rapidly. He also emphasized that by sharing fundamental values, such as democracy, the rule of law and human rights, Canada and Japan should cooperate more as partners in the Asia-Pacific region not only in political and economic fields, but also in fields such as human security and high-technology among others.
After the lecture, Ambassador Ishikawa answered questions asked by the audience and shared his experiences and thoughts. He enjoyed also the discussion with professors, students and other members of the audience at the reception given by the University of Ottawa.
