Canadian Perspectives – Ohara Ikebana Exhibition

On October 22 and 23, the Embassy of Japan was pleased to host the annual Ohara Ikebana Exhibition.  Over two days, more than 400 visitors came to see the beautiful floral arrangements that expressed the mood of the season.

Every year members of the Ottawa Chapter of the Ohara School of Ikebana gather to display their talents in the Embassy's auditorium.  This year’s theme: "Canadian Perspectives" led the artists to use mostly local natural materials to create arrangements that showcased Canadian themes.

During the official opening ceremony, Mr. Derek Kitchen, President of the Ottawa Chapter of Ohara and Ms. Elizabeth Armstrong, Exhibition Chair, welcomed guests. Minister Fumio Yawata also gave opening remarks.  He spoke of the values shared between Canada and Japan which have enabled us to celebrate 83 years of diplomatic relations. He also commented on the fact that people such as the ikebana artists and enthusiasts are all part of the invaluable cultural exchange between the two countries.
