JETAA Networking Wine & Sushi Reception
On November 16th, the Japan Exchange and Teaching Alumni Association (JETAA) of Ottawa hosted a Networking Wine & Sushi reception at Gordon Harrison Gallery in Ottawa.
This event was organized by JETAA for the purpose of relation-building among people related to the JET Programme and those who are interested in Japan. About 80 people participated including JETAA executives, JET Alumnis, government officials and community partners.
Ms. Lisa Mallin, JETAA Vice President, made opening remarks and said she was happy to hold this event with many participants. Then Ambassador Ishikawa applauded JETAA’s lively activities in his speech and mentioned that Professor Makoto Iokibe had commented in his article in the November issue of Chuo-Kouron Magazine that the JET Programme serves an important role in fostering pro-Japanese relations. Ambassador Ishikawa also mentioned that a JET Alumnus, Mr. Will Ferguson, had won the Giller Prize, a prestigious literary award on October 30th, and the Ambassador praised the success of JET participants in society.
At the reception, sushi and wine were served along with a selection of cheeses and crackers. Also Ms. Ryoko Itabashi, who resides in Ottawa, performed Japanese music with the Shamisen and flute during the reception. A draw for Japanese related goods was held at the end. Participants enjoyed lively exchange over Japanese food and culture.
