Revision of the import requirements for Canadian beef to Japan

The Government of Japan and the Government of Canada reached an agreement to implement new requirements to allow imports of Canadian beef from animals up to 30 months old, effective as of February 1, 2013. The agreement was formulated between food safety authorities, after a scientific assessment by the Food Safety Commission of Japan was completed. It is expected that the safe Canadian beef to be exported under the new requirements will expand mutually beneficial economic ties between Japan and Canada.
