A SHOWCASE OF JAPAN-CANADA PARTNERSHIP IN SPACE
Canadian-built CANADARM will play critical role for Japanese built H-II Transfer Vehicle’s docking with the International Space Station

 

OTTAWA ON – The Embassy of Japan is pleased to provide the following information from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency(JAXA).

 

On January 27, 2011, an unmanned cargo transfer spacecraft named H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV)-2 “KOUNOTORI (‘stork’ in Japanese)” developed by Japan, will approach and berth to the International Space Station (ISS).  KOUNOTORI will deliver cargo supplies vital to the sustaining and scientific activities of the ISS.

 

Upon its final approach, the spacecraft will be grappled by the Canadian-built CANADARM to assist in its final docking with the ISS.  This is scheduled to take place on the following times and will be broadcast via streaming video:

 

January 27, 2011
(1) Final approach to the International Space Station / Grappling by the CANADARM
5:50 AM – 6:50 AM EST
(2) Berthing to the International Space Station
8:45 AM – 9:45 AM EST
