The Honourable Bryon Wilfert Receives the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star
The Honourable Bryon Wilfert (former Co-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group, former Member of Parliament) attended the Investiture Presentation Ceremony of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star at the Imperial Palace on 24 June 2011. The Prime Minister of Japan, Naoto Kan, conferred the Order and Certificate on him at the Investiture and he was given an audience with H.M. the Emperor of Japan.
The Honourable Bryon Wilfert has served more than ten years as the Chair and other posts of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group (CJIG). He has greatly contributed to the enhancement of the relationship and the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Canada through interaction between both countries’ inter-parliamentary groups. He was bestowed the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star in official recognition of this great contributions.
After coming back to Canada, the Honourable Bryon Wilfert told Ambassador Kaoru Ishikawa that he would continue to contribute proactively to enhancing the relationship between the two countries.
Note: The Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group (CJIG) consists of members of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada. The CJIG promotes exchanges between Japanese and Canadian parliamentarians, proposes initiatives that promote a better mutual understanding of bilateral and multilateral matters, and works to develop cooperation between the two countries.
