Ambassador Ishikawa’s Business Trip to Quebec

 

Ambassador Ishikawa visited the province of Quebec from April 3 to 6 and engaged in the following activities.

 

On the evening of April 3, Ambassador Ishikawa attended the Opening Ceremonies of the exhibition titled, “Samurai: Masterpieces from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection” which is scheduled to run until January 27, 2013 at the Musée de la Civilisation in Quebec City. Ambassador Ishikawa along with Mr. Michel Côté, Executive Director of Musée de la Civilisation; and Mr. Régis Labeaume, the Mayor of Quebec City, delivered speeches and spoke about the time of peace during the Samurai era and Samurai culture.

The Photo and Children’s Drawing Exhibition “One Year After the Great East Japan Earthquake,” is also taking place at Musée de la Civilisation from April 3 to September 3.

 

On April 4, Ambassador Ishikawa visited Laval University, the oldest French-speaking University in North America, where he met Dr. Denis Briere, Rector of the University. Furthermore, the Ambassador visited the Infectious Disease Research Center (IDRC) of Laval University where he exchanged views with Dr. Michel G. Bergeron and made a visit of the centre under the guidance of Dr. Masahiko Sato, Dr. Sachiko Sato, and Dr. Marc Ouellette.

 

On April 5, the Ambassador attended a charity event organized by the Canadian Red Cross in Montreal (Japan received a special invitation from the Canadian Red Cross). Ambassador delivered his speech along with, Mrs. Michèle Dionne, Honorary President of the Canadian Red Cross; and the wife of Mr. Jean Charest, the Premier of Québec. The Ambassador showed his respect for Canadian and Japanese Red Cross activities as well as reiterated his sincere appreciation for all the assistance provided by Canadian Red Cross and people in Quebec following the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011. More than 600 people attended the event including: the Honourable Jean Charest, Premier of Québec; His Worship Mr. Gérald Tremblay, the Mayor of Montreal; Mr. Ted Tanaka, President of the Canadian Red Cross; Mr. Conrad Sauvé, the Secretary General of the Canadian Red Cross; and Ms. Martine Turcotte, Vice-President of Bell Canada.
