Ambassador Ishikawa’s Lecture at the High School Programme Organized by the Rotary Club of Ottawa
On April 30, Ambassador Ishikawa participated in the programme for high school students organized by the Rotary Club of Ottawa at the National Research Council. The guest speakers were Ambassador Ishikawa; H.E. Biljana Gutic-Bjelica, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina (President of the Ottawa Diplomatic Association); and Ms. Angela Kelly, of the Rotary Club of Ottawa.
Ambassador Ishikawa delivered his lecture to 215 high school students from across Canada. He introduced a few different world maps using perspectives from various parts of the world to explain that different values exist in the world and that it is important to respect the culture of other countries. Furthermore, he spoke about “Canada’s Hope for Youth initiative” and Japan’s Youth Exchange Project with Canada (Kizuna (Bond) Project) which were discussed between Canada and Japan when Prime Minister Stephen Harper paid a visit to Japan in March this year. Also, he covered science and technology cooperation between Canada and Japan to explain the various cooperative relations that two countries enjoy.
After the lecture, the students were eager to participate in a question and answer session. They asked questions about things such as day-to-day diplomatic activities, friendly relations between Canada and Japan, and the domestic situation of Japan. The event was held with a friendly atmosphere.
