Reception in Commemoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake

 

On March 8th, a reception in commemoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake which struck Japan on March 11th 2011 was held by Ambassador Kaoru Ishikawa. At the reception the Ambassador offered his heartfelt condolences to the victims and reiterated Japan’s gratitude for all the support sent by the Canadian people and the international community.

 

At the reception, earthquake-related DVDs and photo panels providing information on post-quake reconstruction were displayed and were of great interest to guests. The DVDs included one of MONKEY MAJIK - KIZUNA Ambassadors (Ambassadors of RESILIENCE), who were headquartered in Sendai, one of the regions affected by the earthquake, and have held charity concerts to support disaster victims.

 

The reception was attended by distinguished guests including: The Honourable Beverley Oda, Minister of International Cooperation; The Co-Chairs of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group: the Honourable David Tkachuk, Senator, and Mr. Mike Wallace, M.P. There were about 335 people in attendance from various fields such as: Canadian government officials, heads of diplomatic missions, the Canadian Red Cross, and the Japanese community in Ottawa.
