Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation 2012

 

On July 12th, 2012, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced the recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendation for the year 2012. From Ottawa, Mrs. Grace Tomiko Furuya, an Ikebana artist and Honorary Member of the Ikebana International Ottawa Centennial Chapter No. 120, will receive this Award.

 

Mrs. Furuya contributed to the founding of the Ikebana International Ottawa Centennial Chapter No. 120 in 1967 as well as of the Ohara School of Ikebana Ottawa Chapter in 1989.  By practicing and instructing Ikebana over decades in Ottawa, she has made a significant contribution to the promotion of Japanese culture in Canada.     

 

In Canada, in addition to Mrs. Furuya, the Foreign Minister’s Commendation will be given to Mr. Takeo Maekawa of Ontario, President of the Japanese Social Services, for his contribution to the assistance of Japanese nationals in Canada; Mr. Yoshio Yagi of British Columbia, Vice Chair of the Vancouver Japanese Language School and Japanese Hall, for his contribution to the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Canada; and Mr. Mitsuo Inoue of Quebec, Former Principal of the Montreal Hoshuko School Inc., for his contribution to the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Canada.
