Investiture Ceremony for Mr. Mitsugi Kikuchi

On April 29, 2012, the Government of Japan made an announcement that it would bestow the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays to an Ottawa resident, Mr. Mistugi Kikuchi for his superb achievement in promoting Japanese culture. On June 7, an investiture ceremony for Mr. Kikuchi was held cordially and amicably at the official residence of Ambassador Ishikawa in which guests such as members of the Ikebana International Ottawa Centennial Chapter attended.

Since Mr. Kikuchi’s arrival in Canada in 1966, he has long been dedicated to promoting Japanese culture as a Japanese-style painter and Japanese flower arrangement artist.

Mr. Kikuchi has been given many awards for producing Japanese ink brush paintings (Sumi-e) and Japanese traditional paintings by using a special Japanese painting technique called “Tarashikomi” of not only Japanese motifs but also of Canadian landscapes and wildlife.

Furthermore, he has held solo exhibitions at various locations including Ottawa and dedicated himself to teaching painting.

In addition to being active as a Japanese-style painter, Mr. Kikuchi contributed to the founding of the Ikebana International Ottawa Centennial Chapter as well as the Ottawa Chapter of the Ohara School of Ikebana as a Sub-Grand Master and Honourary Member. He actively continues to provide Japanese flower arrangement classes to both chapters.
