The Sixth International MANGA Awards

 

On February 8, the Sixth International MANGA Award presentation ceremony was held in Tokyo, in the presence of Foreign Minister Kishida, who is also the chairman of the Executive Committee of the Award. This year there were 245 entries from 38 countries and regions and the Executive Committee chose 15 works as winners, including a Gold Award work and three Silver Award works.

 

Gold Award:

Silver Award:

Title of Work: "Melon Seed School Vol. 3"
Artist: Ittiwat Suriyamart (Thailand)


Title of Work: "Floating Flower"
Artist: Yao Wei (China)


Title of Work: "5 minutes before airing"
Artist: Muhammad Fathanatul Haq (Indonesia)
Script: Ockto Baringbing (Indonesia)

The winners expressed their delight: “I have liked to read Japanese manga since I was a child, and it was not only fun but it also gave me courage and allowed me to dream” (Mr. Kosin Jeenseekong). “This award made me sure that my constant efforts won’t be wasted” (Mr. Ittiwat Suriyamart). “I met everyone here and I felt that the world is very romantic and filled with kindness” (Ms. Yao Wei). “This award has encouraged us to go on pursuing our dreams” (Mr. Ockto Baringbing / Mr. Muhammad Fathanatul Haq).

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs founded the International Manga Award in 2007 to honor manga artists who contribute to the promotion of manga overseas. The Committee comprises the Minister for Foreign Affairs as a chairman, and other members including the President of the Japan Foundation. This was the sixth year of the International Manga Awards and high-quality works are being received every year.
