Foreign Minister’s Award for Dr. Jacob Kovalio

 

 

On September 10th 2014, Ambassador Okuda conferred the Foreign Minister’s Award on Dr. Jacob Kovalio for his contribution to the deepening of friendship and promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Canada.

 

In his role as an academic and educator, Dr. Jacob Kovalio has been a strong figure in promoting greater understanding and appreciation of Japan in Canada. As a professor of Asian and Japanese history at Carleton University, he initiated “Japan Night” which introduces Japanese culture to university students. In addition, Dr. Kovalio has brought greater awareness of Japan among Canadian academia and has passionately conveyed Japan’s role as a valuable contributor to the international community in a variety of media appearances.

 

Ambassador Okuda extended his congratulations to Dr. Jacob Kovalio for his achievements in nurturing a deeper understanding of Japan among his colleagues, pupils and the Canadian public. In his own remarks, Dr. Kovalio expressed his gratitude for the Foreign Minister’s Award and underscored the friendship and the common values shared by Canada and Japan, notably their commitment to democracy, peace and the rule of law.
