Ambassador Okuda’s Farewell Reception
On March 12th, Ambassador Okuda and Mrs. Okuda held a farewell reception at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa.
The reception was attended by distinguished guests including: the Honourable John Duncan, Minister of State and Chief Government Whip; Mr. Peter Braid, Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Communities; Mr. Chungsen Leung, Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism; the Honourable Daniel Lang, Chair for the Senate Standing Committee on National Security and Defence; and Mr. Mike Wallace, Co-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group. There were about 330 people in attendance including Canadian parliamentary and government officials; heads of diplomatic missions; Japanese nationals and members of the Japanese-Canadian community; journalists; and representatives from academia, cultural groups and businesses.
In his farewell address, Ambassador Okuda emphasized that during his tenure in Canada, Prime Minister Abe’s visit to Canada helped to further the bilateral relationship in both political and economic fields. Furthermore, deeper collaboration in the energy sector, as well as active exchange in the academic and scientific sectors has progressed.
He added that Canada and Japan must continue to learn from each other and expressed his hope that the two countries will continue to develop their partnership through various exchanges.
Following Ambassador Okuda’s remarks, Mr. Mike Wallace, Co-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group, made a toast extending his gratitude to Ambassador Okuda for his achievements.
