Ambassador Ishikawa attends the Progress in Japan Luncheon at the Canadian Red Cross
On Monday October 24th, Ambassador Kaoru Ishikawa attended the “Progress in Japan Luncheon” in Toronto, co-hosted by the Canadian Red Cross and the Embassy of Japan. This event gave the Ambassador an occasion to express his sincere gratitude for all the support from Canada after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
As of November 1st 2011, the Canadian people have donated approximately 49 million dollars through the Canadian Red Cross to support relief and recovery activities in the disaster-hit area of Tohoku region in Japan. As for the donations from Canadians sent to the Embassy of Japan in Canada, the amount of 43.5 thousand dollars (as of Oct. 24th 2011) has been sent to the Japanese Red Cross Society. These amounts do not represent the total relief funds donated from Canada; as donations were also made through many other channels.
The relief money received is to be used for the rescue activities in disaster stricken areas by the Japanese Red Cross Society, or is to be sent to local public entities, which in turn distribute the relief money among the affected people.
On behalf of the people and the Government of Japan, the Embassy would like to express a deep sense of gratitude for the good will of the Canadian people.
