Ambassador Ishikawa visits pork farm and factory
On October 27, Ambassador Ishikawa visited a pork farm and meat processing facility located in the suburbs of Toronto, Ontario.
Pork is one of the largest Canadian export items to Japan, as well as rapeseeds. In recent years, a quarter of Japan’s pork imports come from Canada. Also, Ontario accounts for over 20 percent of Canadian farming pigs, and is one of the largest pork producers in Canada, as are Quebec and Manitoba.
During the visit, Ambassador Ishikawa visited the Aberle Farm to meet Mr. James Reesor, CEO of RFW Farms and Mr. Stephen Aberle, manager of the farm, and exchanged opinions on Canadian pig farming operations and took a tour of the farm.
Ambassador Ishikawa also visited the Quality Meat Packer, the pork processing facility shipping products to Japan. He met Mr. David Schwartz, CEO and exchange opinions on the Canada-Japan pork business and had a tour of the facility.
Through these visits, we affirm that Canadian pork industries regard Japan and Japanese consumers as good steady partners in purchasing high quality pork.
