Ambassador Ishikawa attends a reception celebrating the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan,
organized by the Consulate-General of Montreal
Ambassador Kaoru Ishikawa and his wife attended a reception celebrating the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, organized by the Consulate-General of Japan in Montreal on the 25th of November, 2011.
Representing Jean Charest, Premier of Quebec was Line Beauchamp, Deputy Premier of Quebec, and representing Montreal mayor Gérald Tremblay was Mary Deros, Executive committee member of the City of Montreal. Both gave speeches to congratulate His Majesty the Emperor of Japan on the occasion of his birthday. The reception was also attended by several politicians, such as Gérard Deltell, leader of the Action démocratique du Québec, as well as academics, people from the cultural community and representatives from many other fields.
In his speech, Ambassador Kaoru Ishikawa expressed his gratitude for the sympathy and solidarity shown by Quebecers and Canadians from the Atlantic provinces towards the victims, survivors and evacuees of the Great East Japan Earthquake. He also expressed his will to continue strengthening Japan-Canada relations in the future.
At the reception, photos of their Majesties the Emperor and Empress’ visit to evacuees from the Great East Japan Earthquake were displayed. A video message of gratitude from the members of the 2011 Women’s World Cup champion National women’s soccer team “Nadeshiko Japan”, as well as photo panels showing the current state of reconstruction in Tohoku were also displayed. As well, photos of Japan’s activities in space and Canada-Japan cooperation at the International Space Station were displayed showing guests the current situation of the cooperation between the two countries with the aim of building a better future for our children and our grand-children
