The 22nd Japanese Language Speech Contest in Ottawa

 

On Saturday, March 5, 2011, the Organizing Committee for the Japanese Language Speech Contest in Ottawa, in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan, was pleased to present the 22nd Japanese Language Speech Contest in Ottawa. A total of 22 contestants, including some as young as high school students, and with different nationalities, took part in the contest. Contestants were divided into 5 categories: High School, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Open and delivered impassioned speeches

.

Each contestant had very unique titles and topics and expressed themselves in their own words in front of more than 80 people. They talked about Japan, their thoughts and feelings about their daily lives, their personal experiences, precious family members, life and death, bonds between people and so on.

  

The event's main sponsors were the Japan Foundation, and Mitsui Canada Co. Other notable sponsors of the events were Boko Bakery, C'est Japon à Suisha, and Kiko Sushi Bar.

 

The 1st prize winners of the three categories (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) will be participating in the 2011 Canada National Japanese Speech Contest at the University of Calgary on Saturday, March 26, 2011.
