Ambassador Kawamura’s Official Visit to the Province of Quebec (November 30 to December 2, 2021)

H.E. Kawamura Yasuhisa, Ambassador of Japan, paid an official visit to the province of Quebec (La belle Province) together with Mr. Saito Jun, Consul General of Montreal, from November 30 to December 2, 2021. This was the Ambassador’s first official visit since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
On December 2, in the Capital of Quebec city, Ambassador Kawamura and Consul General Saito met with The Honourable L. Michel Doyon, Lieutenant Governor of Quebec; The Honourable François Legault, Premier of Quebec; and Mr. François Paradis, President of the National Assembly. The Ambassador also attended a luncheon hosted by Mr. Eric Marquis, Assistant Deputy Minister for Bilateral Relations, Ministry of International Relations and La Francophonie. During the meetings, they confirmed that Japan and Canada/Quebec are important partners sharing common values and exchanged views on how to further strengthen cooperation between each other to enhance the great potential as well as their economic and cultural relations.
 
The Ambassador also met and exchanged views with members of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Montreal on November 30, and attended a reception held by the Quebec-Japan Business Forum on December 1.
 
On December 1, the Ambassador delivered a speech entitled “Japan-Canada: Strengthening the Rule of Law and Our Common Interests in the Indo-Pacific Region” at the Montreal Council on Foreign Relations (CORIM) conference. The Ambassador also visited the Canadian Space Agency where he met President Lisa Campbell and discussed space cooperation between Japan and Canada.
