Virtual School Visit Program (Nov 30)
2021/11/30
On November 30, the Embassy of Japan hosted a virtual presentation on the topic of Food and Culture as part of its online School Visit Program. Approximately 20 grade 9 - 12 students enrolled in the International Certificate Program of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, and 5 staff members from the Embassy of Japan, participated in the interactive presentation. Students learned about many aspects of Japanese food and culture, including washoku, osechi ryori, matcha, wagyu and food-related festivals and rituals such as setsubun and okuizome. At the end there was also a lively Q&A with the students.
The Embassy of Japan’s School Visit Program operates throughout the year and provides many Ottawa and Gatineau students the opportunity to learn about different topics related to Japan in either English or French. This program is usually offered in-person either at the Embassy of Japan or in classroom. However, for measures for COVID-19, it has been offered virtually via Zoom – you can find details of the program here.
