Ottawa Bonsai Society 2015 Exhibition

On September 12 and 13, the Embassy of Japan hosted a Bonsai Exhibition organized by the Ottawa Bonsai Society.  Over the course of the weekend, more than 400 visitors attended the show.

The Ottawa Bonsai Society was formed 30 years ago and is currently comprised of about 60 members. As part of their annual show at the Embassy, 46 bonsai were exhibited.

At the Opening Ceremony, Minister Karube said that for Cultural Diplomacy, we need the support of local organizations, and thanked the Ottawa Bonsai Society for helping to promote understanding and friendship between Canadians and Japanese by sharing their love of nature and the tradition of Bonsai with others.

On the second day, Ambassador and Mrs. Monji also visited the exhibition and were given a tour of exhibit by Mr. Vianney Leduc, President of Ottawa Bonsai Society.

As well as the Bonsai demonstration organized by the Embassy on September 9, there were demonstrations on both days of the show. In addition to viewing the exhibits, these interactive demos allowed visitors to deepen their understanding of bonsai and expand their interest by seeing firsthand how a bonsai is created and maintained.
