Ottawa Bonsai Society Exhibition 2016

On September 17 and 18, annual Bonsai Exhibition by Ottawa Bonsai Society was held at the embassy auditorium. Ottawa Bonsai Society was created 31 years ago and this is their 13th exhibition at the embassy.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Vianney Leduc, president of Ottawa Bonsai Society, thanked the embassy for its cooperation. In his opening remarks, Counsellor Futagi, director of Information and Cultural Centre of the embassy said that tending to bonsai is a lifelong artistic endeavor, and bonsai enthusiasts’ connection with Japan through bonsai helps to strengthen the bonds between two countries.

More than 550 people visited and enjoyed over 40 pieces of beautiful bonsai tended by the members of the society. Ambassador and Mrs. Monji visited on the first day and executive from the society gave a tour of the exhibit.

In the afternoon on the both days of the show, President Leduc gave interactive demonstrations and visitors had an opportunity to learn more about bonsai.
