34th Japan Film Festival
On November 4th and 5th, the Canadian Film Institute (CFI), in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation, presented the 34th Japanese Film Festival at Carleton University. Two movies were screened during the festival: A Tale of Samurai Cooking on November 4th and The Apology King on November 5th. The festival attracted about 530 people over two days to celebrate the richness and diversity of contemporary Japanese Cinema.
After the introductory remark by the CFI Executive Director Mr. Tom McSorley, Ambassador Monji explained about the films, expressing his hope that the movies will provide the audience with a deeper understanding of Japanese life and culture. He also thanked the CFI for its continuous efforts to bring Japanese cinema to Ottawa.
The CFI Japan Film Festival is one of CFI’s longest-running events and one of the Embassy’s most popular. Since its inception in 1985, the festival has introduced a variety of Japanese films produced by Japan's talented and innovative filmmakers to Ottawa audiences.
