Ikebana Demonstration by Ms. Koka Fukushima, Master Instructor of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana

On October 1, an Ikebana demonstration, organized by the Sogetsu Ikebana Ottawa Branch in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan, was held at the Canadian Museum of History. The event was attended by 290 people. Prior to the Ikebana demonstration, the Embassy of Japan hosted a cocktail reception, where highest quality Japanese sake and sushi rolls were served.

The demonstration was presented by Ms. Koka Fukushima, Master Instructor at the Sogetsu School of Ikebana Headquarters in Tokyo and Director of the Sogetsu Foundation. Her career spans over 50 years and she continues to dedicate herself to promoting Ikebana overseas and in Japan.

The event was attended by distinguished guests including Ms. Lisa Bradford, spouse of MP Terry Sheehan, Co-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group and Mrs. Aline Chretien, spouse of former Prime Minister Jean Chretien, as well as many ambassadors and their spouses from the diplomatic community in Ottawa.

Using seasonal and local materials including not only flowers but also trees and vegetables, 11 arrangements were demonstrated on stage. Ms. Koka Fukushima’s innovative Sogetsu Ikebana creations, breathtaking blend of colours, and unique selection of local materials captivated the audience.
