Japanese Saké Lecture by Ambassador Monji

On September 29th, Ambassador Monji gave a lecture on Japanese Saké as a part of promoting Japanese sake imports to Canada. About 50 guests including government officials, Ambassadors, restaurateurs, sommeliers, chefs, LCBO and food journalists were invited to this event.

Ambassador Monji, who holds the title of “Saké Samurai”* gave a lecture explaining the brewing, classification, handling and tasting of saké.

After the lecture, guests were invited to taste 13 different kinds of saké that had been carefully chosen by Ambassador Monji. Guests commented that they had never been to such an informative saké tasting presentation, and it deepened their understanding of saké’s flavor, delicacy and variety, and that they hope Japanese saké will be made more readily available in Canada. Guests also enjoyed hors d'oeuvres like hosomaki rolls prepared by Ambassador’s chef.

Ozawa Canada and Ontario Spring Water Saké Company also participated in this event and introduced their products at their booths.

The guests had the privilege of using Guinomi Sake cups created by Ms.Junko Kiritani, who was holding an exhibition at the Embassy at the same time.

*Saké Samurai is a title awarded by the Japan Saké brewers Association Junior Council to people who contribute to the promotion of Japanese saké worldwide. There are only 61 people with the title of Saké Samurai in the world.
