Mochitsuki 2016

On December 4th, the Ottawa Japanese Community Association (OJCA) and Ottawa Japanese Cultural Centre (OJCC) held ‘Mochitsuki 2016’ at St. Anthony's Soccer Club. At this annual event, in addition to ‘mochitsuki’ (rice cake pounding), there were performances by Otowa-Taiko, Emino-Kai and Minyo-Kai dance groups, and a children’s group. People could buy Japanese food including mochi, sekihan, sushi, udon, and butajiru. A lottery and bazaar were also organised.

This is the biggest event held by the Japanese-Canadian and Japanese Community in Ottawa. About 300 people participated this year. It was very successful and was a good social opportunity for the community.
