“Our Blue Planet” Musical Performance by the Classic Live for the United Nations
On October 17, 2017, the Classic Live for the United Nations (CLUN) presented a musical performance named “Our Blue Planet” at the Embassy of Japan. In his opening remarks preceding the show, Ambassador Monji thanked the CLUN, a non-profit organization associated with the United Nations Development Programme, for promoting international exchanges and contributing to an increased understanding of UN operations through various forms of performing arts. He noted that the musical’s messages on the importance of environment protection and the UN sustainable development goals resonate for a global audience, as we are faced with a multitude of global challenges threatening human beings and our planet.
Ambassador’s welcome was followed by the remarks of Ms. Masayo Koike, head of the CLUN visit delegation. Ms. Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party of Canada, gave her closing remarks following the show, in which she praised Japan’s contribution to the global climate action, including the Kyoto Protocol and most recently the Paris Agreement.
The concert was followed by a reception, where guests tasted Japanese food and drinks, including several types of Japanese national alcoholic drink sake selected by Ambassador Monji, who himself is a sake samurai.
