Japanese Storytelling Event

On August 4th and 5th, the Embassy of Japan hosted a Japanese Storytelling event. Throughout both days, over 110 children aged up to 8 and accompanying adults gathered to immerse in Japanese culture. The event started off with the traditional Japanese storytelling known as Kamishibai which is said to be popular in the 1920s through 1950s, and is a form of Japanese street theatre using picture scrolls to convey stories.

After the storytelling, participants were invited to Japanese style singing and dancing lead by volunteers from OJCC’s play group as well as Origami, the art of paper folding. Furthermore, children had a chance to play with traditional Japanese toys and also therapeutic robot seal developed in Japan was there to greet children.
